My Valentine

Love at first sight

The face of my heart

February 14, 2011 -

 Happy Valentine’s Day!

My V-Day wouldn’t be complete without my furry valentine, so this post is dedicated to her.  Anyone that knows me knows that Kyra is the light of my life.  She’s a huge part of me and she’s my best buddy.  Since the very first day, my heart was all hers… and I’m pretty sure the feeling is mutual :)

It’s amazing how much a four-legged creature can change a human life.  I can honestly say my life would not be AT ALL the same without her.  I bought a house for her, an SUV for her, took up regular exercise for her, learned about training, and got this job because of her!  I stumbled into this job through my obedience classes with her and it turned out to be my calling.  Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined I’d be a dog trainer!  I met many of my friends, and my best friend, because of Kyra.  I became more social, but at the same time I gained confidence to go places alone because I never felt alone.

We’ve spent nearly every day together for almost ten years now and it’s been wonderful.  I fell in love with her the moment I met her and I am even crazier about her today.  The upside to dogs is that they love you unconditionally and they are always happy to see you.  The downside is that they don’t live forever.  The thought that our days are numbered is always in the back of my mind.  So when she’s a pest (like right now while I type this), when she needs to go for a walk, when she wants to play because she’s been by herself all day, I never say, “Just go away… Leave me alone.”  I never say that, because one day she will.  When that day comes, all I’ll want is for her to be here pestering me.

So on this Valentine’s Day, don’t forget that furry bundle of love.  Even when they are a pain, they get muddy paw prints on your floor, and make you late for work… take a second to remember they won’t always be around and you should make every second count.
