Hi, I just rescued a 1 yr. old male mini dachshund. I had to go to the store so I crated him in his own cage while my other two were in their own cages. I found out when I got back home that my new boy barked the whole hour I was gone. My other two are quiet up until I pull in the driveway. Then they bark because they hear me and are happy I am home. How do I stop the 1 yr. old from barking while I am gone. I did forget to turn of the radio for them as I usually did when I only had the two. This is the first time I have left him alone since I got him. Just a little information on him. He was abused and is deathly afraid of men. I have earned his trust and he is really attached to me now. I think that is why he barked. Just need to know how to stop it...Any help will be greatly appreciated by me and my neighbors..lol Thank you, Laura

I would put him in the crate when you are home. Start for short periods of times. Like it was a game. Then let him out hopefully before he barks. If there was no barking reasure him, praise him and/or give him a treat. Add ten seconds at a time until he will stay in there a couple of hours. If he barks tell him no or what ever you do when he is bad. You might need to just egnore him until he calms down. Dogs bark for many reasons. He might want out. Want to tell the world he hates being in a box. Might be scared he will not be let out. Who knows. If he barks and you let him out it will teach him to bark. So try to only let him out after he calms down. That is why teaching while you are at home is good. When you are gone if he barks it may teach him because he is being egnored. It might upset the naighbors also. This is what I would try first.
