My 8 week old puppy, Leo, has mange as we found out yesterday at the vet. I dropped 80 dollars for him to tell me what he had, and give me a soothing shampoo for him, but not the actual cure-all. When I get paid next week, I plan on going back to get him all fixed up, but in the meantime, the shampoo alone isn't seeming to do the trick, and my poor guy is crying and whimpering because he itches so badly. Are there any other at home relief methods you know of that might help him feel better until we can get him on antibiotics or whatnot?

Please please let us know,

Hello peopleshm,
I have tried the burnt motor oil treatment on my dogs and that does not seem to work. we live in South Texas and after I covered my poor dogs in that oil I felt really bad for her because it was really hot the following day and I felt really bad about her having this black stuff on her. I've tried just about everything and nothing seems to help. I'm reluctant to take her to the vet because they'll charge me an arm and a leg and then at the end she might still have the problem.

I know of 2 things for Mange. Used motor oil rubbed on the dog can kill the mange. Though it takes several treatments. Our Sheltie got it years ago and the Vets were no help. My country cousin advised the used motor oil and it worked. I have since heard that there is a strong animal shampoo that country hardware stores carry that can cure it. Our little Sheltie got it from a dog saloon. She suffered for 3 years until we were advised to use the used motor oil. Once it was gone, her hair grew back and she was as beautiful as ever and the itching was gone. The Vets stuff never helped. Cutting her hair around the areas never really helped either. Good luck. Hope your dog gets better soon.
