I just got a new dog last week at the Humane Society, he has been a very sweet and loving dog up until today, all of a sudden he is pooping in the house, and not for lack of potty breaks. Not only is he pooping in the house, but it is ONLY in my 2 year old's room. So far he has done this three times TODAY. Up until this time he had never had an accident in the house from the time we got him last week. I am thinking he may be jealous of my toddler, even though she was here before we got him. I am not sure what to do, but if this keeps up or escalates into something that may harm my child he will have to go. Any suggestions or tips on how to handle this??

Is your dog showing any other signs of aggression towards your baby that makes you think he is jealous of her?
if not then it could be as simple as strong smell that triggers your dogs desire to poop.
If you observe dogs always smell other dog's pee or poop and releave in the same area on the walk. your dog probably smells similar strong smell which makes him think its ok to poop here.

For the cleanliness and health of your baby, try not letting the dog in her room so he gets out of the habit, may be a gate will help keep him out.

if there are signs of aggression towards the baby outside of this scenario, i would recommend getting help from a trainer.
