When I came in to drop my dog off, two employees were busy chatting (one was grooming a dog while the other was just standing there talking to him). The employee who came up to help me, Jackie, was friendly and I liked her. The entire time she was checking us in (my first time here), the two employees were busily chatting away. Then the male employee who was grooming the dog (who seemed dreadfully scared and was shaking like a leaf), suddenly shook the dog and yelled at the dog "knock it off!" I was shocked! I told Jackie that this young man better not touch my dog and she guaranteed he would not. He and the female employee he had been chatting with heard me and stopped chatting (she went to the back area) and he never once looked up at me the entire time I was there - nor did anyone apologize for his horrible behavior. I don't think I will bring my dog back to PetSmart again - not after I witnesses how this male employee treated this scared dog. He should be ashamed and he should be fired!!! Looking back on it now, I should have walked out on the spot, but because neither of the other employees seemed surprised, I didn't take action. My mistake. Never again!

Unfortunately one groomer can make the entire place look bad. First thing to do when selecting your groomer is finding someone who bonds with your pet and you. I have taken my dogs to petsmart in Hickory, nc for years and I always ask for a specific groomer. I love my groomer but unfortunately sometimes one person can make everyone look bad regardless of how YOUR specific groomer performs

What a terrible experience! I hope you told the manager immediately, so that groomer would be watched (or better yet, have to find a different job). That shoud not be tolerated. Unfortunately,it is not as rare as one might think. I saw some things while I worked at a big pet store chain with an active grooming department that made me vow to never take my dogs to a groomer, unless I could be there & watch the whole time. Dogs are scared & in an unfamiliar environment. Groomers are human and can get impatient & tired. Not a good combination. My dogs are a high maintenence breed, but I invested in a professional clipper,& a do-it-yourself manual. Sure, they got some pretty funny haircuts at first, but now they look marvelous. And I KNOW how they're being treated during groomings.
