There is a dog trainer at the Youngstown Petsmart that has a Bloodhound. She went from Beneful to Nature's Recipe and says her dog is thriving.

Because Petsmart is a Store. They carry all kinds of things that could be harmful. It is up to you to do the research for the best toys, treats, food for your companion animal.

Iams (grocery brand, and Eukanuba (premium brand) are the same company. Their new parent company is Proctor and Gamble.

What I want to know is this -- I clicked on the Adoptions link on the PetSmart page and got some dog pictures and stories who are in shelters in my area and one of the dogs was rescued from an IAMS testing facility. If IAMS is mistreating animals, why does PetSmart still carry this brand?

This is a highly informative post! Thanks kingrattus. I did run across this pets article the other day... If people want to know the dirty truth about what's in that bag of dog food:

WOW!!! Thank you so, so, so much for posting that link for the food analysis site! Even if someone doesn't necessarily agree with the rating given to their chosen food, just the fact that you can go to one place and view all the food choices and their ingredients is an incredible asset.

When we lost the info from the site this summer it deleted my post saying that I had taken my dog off the Science Diet food I had recently switched her to. She just wouldn't eat it and when she did she had digestive issues. At 1st I figured it was just because it was a new food and she was adjusting, but after 6wks of this I was ready to pull my hair out. After really reading the ingredient list on the back of the bag - I admit I had just given it a brief scan when I switched her initially - I realized the ingredients just weren't what I wanted to be feeding my dog. What I just read on that analysis website totally backed up my decision.

Maya is currently eating Healthwise Active Chicken & Oatmeal Formula (3 star review) and she loves it. For my picky eater that’s half the battle. And what's even better is that this food has more protein, fat and fatty acids than regular dog foods (it's made for working dogs), so I don't have to mix puppy food in with her adult kibble anymore to keep weight on her. She has been eating this since August and she looks great, has even bulked up a bit. I will admit that once winter hit Ohio I started giving her Derma Form again - but that's just because she has sensitive skin and the air in my house is very dry.

I think everyone should take a second and look at that analysis website. You don’t have to agree with the review, but it’s always good to know exactly what you’re feeding your dog. You might just be surprised.

Heres a website that has anaylized just about every dog food there is and given it a rating from 1-6, and why it got its rating. You will be surprised at what got a good rating and what didn't.... check it out for yourself. I researched and then talked to my vet and realized what I was feeding my dogs could have killed them but was being sold as a "high end" dog food!!! For a human it would be like eating at McDonalds for 3 meals a day every single day and ordering crap.
