Prebiotics work from the inside to support your pet’s defenses. With solid internal health, your dog or cat will feel healthy inside and look healthy outside.

Did you know that almost 70% of a dog’s or cat’s immune system can be found in the digestive tract? The key function of the digestive tract is the absorption of nutrients. What a dog or cat eats is processed through the digestive tract and, during this process, the digestive tract acts as a guardian for the rest of their body.

A prebiotic is a natural ingredient that promotes healthy digestion. It does this by nourishing the good bacteria found in the digestive tract. “A prebiotic fiber selectively feeds the beneficial bacteria in the gut,” explains Dr. Amy Dicke, an Ohio-based veterinarian who has been a member of a team consisting of nutritionists, researchers and fellow veterinarians. As a result, the new prebiotics may promote good immunity defenses and better digestion.

Not only available in dry pet foods, prebiotics are also a recent addition to canned/wet dog and cat foods. To find a pet specialty food for your pet that contains prebiotics, look for specially-marked bags at your favorite PetSmart
