How to Measure for a Pet Bed

Your rating: None

Every Pet Parent wants his or her pet to be as comfortable as possible when sleeping. Choosing the correct size bed is vital to your dog or cat getting a good night’s sleep, and it’s relatively easy to do.

  • Measure your dog or cat lengthwise while he’s sleeping. Some pets curl up and some stretch out, which is why it’s not advisable to measure while your pet is awake.
  • If you’re purchasing a bed with raised sides, choose one with an interior surface area that’s slightly longer than your pet. (Again, it's best to measure your pet while they are snoozing.) Three extra inches is perfect for cats and smaller dogs, while medium and large dogs will need about 6 additional inches. Don’t go too big, because these beds are designed to keep your pet snug and comfy.
  • If you’re choosing a pillow bed for your pet, be sure to account for the extra 3 to 6 inches, but don’t worry about going too big – pillow beds are all about sprawling.
