Question:
hi we just got a new puppy and she is only 6 weeks old. She is no longer nursing off the mother and we are using milk substitute that you mix with puppy food because she wont drink water yet. My question is how do I if anything get her to train well on the pads that were using? she is using them quite well and wont go any where else except on the pad but when do you think shell be ready for not using them any longer?
Answer:

If I understand correctly, you are wondering when you can start weaning her off puppy pads? If so, then you can stop using those when she is able to hold her bladder/bowels for as long as you need her to. For most dogs, that would be around 6-7 months of age. At that age (6-7 months), most dogs can “hold it” in a kennel for 8-9 hours. Until then, you’ll need to leave a puppy pad available for times when you are gone longer than she can wait. As a side note, she’s plenty old enough to drink water so if she isn’t, I’d experiment with different bowls to see if she can’t figure it out. Talk to your vet if you have questions about that.
